The exercise encourages patients to identify their behavior and what they want to change. After the patient has done so, the practitioner takes them through a readiness to change assessment and determines how ready they are to facilitate positive change. This program is more generalized, as students are required to complete general courses on mental health and wellness and psychotherapy principles and research. They are also required to complete more specialized courses in CBT, with the option of completing elective courses in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to become more diversified.
