Harry Potter Franchise

Come on; everyone knows Prisoner of Azkaban is the best one. Newt is still traveling around like the Wizarding World’s version of a seasoned Pokémon trainer, but that’s mostly where the similarities with the first film end. Grindelwald’s power is rising and suddenly our quaint little animal lover is a footsoldier in a magical war. This film also gives us the beautifully animated ‘Tale of the Three Brothers’ sequence, put together by Ben Hibon.

Although there were only 7 books in the original series, there are a total of 11 movies in the Harry Potter franchise. This includes 8 films based on the books (2 parts for the Deathly Hallows) and 3 Fantastic Beasts prequels. Outside of the films there is a Broadway play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as well as quite a lot of Harry Potter games — including the newest one, Hogwarts Legacy. Plus, the earlier “Harry Potter” films are more like kids movies if you’re looking to watch something with the entire family. On the whole, the series makes more sense to watch in release order, but if you know these movies like the back of your hand, watching chronologically is a fun exercise. Harry Potter is a series of seven fantasy novels written by British author J.

This is the movie of the Triwizard Tournament, pitting Harry as a reluctant competitor against dragons, mermaids, a sentient maze, and Robert Pattinson. Not only is Azkaban considered by many (us included!) to be the best Potter movie overall, but the film also fully entrenches the sense of impending doom. This is also the movie, of course, that gave the world Kenneth Branagh’s performance of pure ham as Gilderoy Lockhart.

The Future of Harry Potter

Rowling takes readers on a thrilling journey as Harry faces new challenges, discovers the power of unity, and battles against the rising darkness of Voldemort’s regime. The first book published in the series is Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets in 1998. The most successful of the three, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, made less money than all-but-one of the Harry Potter movies (The Prisoner of Azkaban). But, seeing as it had 12 years of inflation on its side, it’s debatable whether it actually outperformed the third Hogwarts film in real terms.

How to Watch Harry Potter in Release Order

Harry, Ron and Hermione learn about the Deathly Hallows, legendary items that lead to mastery over death. The group infiltrate the ministry, where they steal a locket Horcrux, and visit Godric’s Hollow, where they are attacked by Nagini, Voldemort’s snake. A silver doe Patronus leads them to the Sword of Gryffindor, with which they destroy the locket. They steal a Horcrux from Gringotts and travel to Hogwarts, culminating in a battle with Death Eaters. Snape is killed by Voldemort out of paranoia, but lends Harry his memories before he dies.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

There are a few limited edition Harry Potter books that Spencer says are worth holding on to, but they are worth hundreds, not thousands. Spencer revealed book dealers have been known to attend signing events and offer to donate £1,000 to JK Rowling’s children’s charity Lumos in return for her signing a first edition and they end up being escorted out by security. Other first edition copies of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” have sold at auction for between £17,500 and £69,000, plus buyer’s premium, depending on their condition. “My children are grown up now and I thought it was time for someone else to have the pleasure of owning a rare piece of literary history,” the mom said. Years ago, her children read something online about identifying first editions. The 58-year-old seller bought the hardcover copy for £10 — between $12 and $13 — after she spotted it in a bargain bucket in a shop in the Scottish Highlands 26 years ago. Just 500 copies were printed in the first run of hardbacks, with 300 going to schools and libraries and 200 going out to bookshops, Hansons’ books expert Jim Spencer said.

That being said, if you do want to reread the entire Harry Potter series before catching up with the films, there’s still a way to feel like you’re at Hogwarts even if you don’t have a Max or Prime subscription. Hulu offers a 7-day free trial that includes Max, so you can watch the Harry Potter films for free.

If you want to be strictly chronological, the first three “Fantastic Beasts” films — set in the 1920s — come first in the timeline. Any time of year is time for a Harry Potter movie marathon. Although USA and Syfy come in real handy around the holidays when they put on their Harry Potter movie marathons, the films are also streaming online year-round (and, of course, available to own outright). Tom Beasley Tom has been a film critic and entertainment journalist for close to a decade, attending festivals, premieres, and even the BAFTAs (though he thinks he might have been invited by mistake). He believes Paddington 2 to be by far the best sequel ever made (sorry Empire Strikes Back) and is a devoted lover of Harry Potter, horror movies, musicals, professional wrestling and the British TV series Waterloo Road.

Since the release of the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on 26 June 1997, the books have found immense popularity, positive reviews, and commercial success worldwide. If you’re a Potterhead who wants to see every Wizarding World film, you can go about it in two ways. Here are some watch lists based on release and chronological order, along with which streaming services have them available. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the final movie in the Harry Potter series chronologically. Set in 1998, this film is a continuation of part 1 starting right where the previous film left off.
